HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF URDU SCRIPT: EXPLANATORY AND RESEARCH BASED STUDY

Abstract

What is the meaning of script? How different scripts, especially that of Arabic and Indian, originated and evolved? What are the historical and evolutionary relationships between Arabic, Persian, and Urdu? These are some questions whose significance is not hidden to linguistic experts. In this article, the author has proved ancient Egypt as the center and source of all scripts (and it’s all forms). According to him, the scripts of Greece, India and other areas have passed evolutionary stages, and that Arabic, Persian, and Urdu scripts have deep historical and evolutionary relations with each other. The author, however, considers the precedence of Urdu over Hindi as an established facts among linguistic experts. It is also a fact that the division between Urdu and Deonaghari script was part of the Fort William College’s systematic language policy.
